Scaling High Resolution Grassland Insights Delivering 10 m Daily GPP (Leandro Parente)
Earth Observation Summer School 2026 17 Aug 2026 – 21 Aug 2026, Istanbul, Turkey https://opengeohub.org/events/earth-observation-summer-school-2026 As global efforts to mitigate climate change intensify, the livestock sector faces a critical challenge: optimizing production while drastically reducing methane emissions. Within the Global Pasture Watch (GPW) initiative, the Time2Graze project has launched a pioneering effort to bridge the gap between satellite technology and sustainable livestock production. This talk present the development of Near-Real-Time (NRT) 10-meter Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) layers across eight key tropical nations, including Brazil, Argentina, and Tanzania. Utilizing cloud computing, we are building a scalable infrastructure to transform Sentinel-2 imagery into actions for better livestock management on the ground. We will discuss the technical challenges involved in processing and delivery massive data sets at scale in a NRT workflow, providing livestock managers with the timely insights needed to optimize grazing patterns, improve pasture health, and ultimately achieve the emission targets set by the Global Methane Hub.
