Earth Observation Summer School 2026 17 Aug 2026 – 21 Aug 2026, Istanbul, Turkey https://opengeohub.org/events/earth-observation-summer-school-2026 Land surface temperature (LST) is a critical parameter for understanding environmental condition, urban heat island effects, and climate change impacts. This workshop introduces participants to the processing, analysis, and visualization of thermal satellite data using the R programming language. Participants will learn how to retrieve and preprocess thermal infrared (TIR) band imagery and derive land surface temperature maps. The workshop further explores the relationship between LST and different land cover types (e.g., vegetation, built-up areas, water bodies, and bare soil) through spatial and statistical analyses, including the integration of vegetation indices. This hands-on workshop is designed for those seeking open-source tools and reproducible workflows for thermal data analysis.
